How to Care for Swimwear Fabric

3 Tips to make your swimwear last!

Are you taking the extra steps to care for your swimwear after use? Purchasing swimwear can be expensive so make sure to protect your investment and follow these 3 easy tips. By properly caring for your swimwear, you can extend the life for endless seasons to come!

1. Hand Wash Swimwear After Use

Many are guilty of tossing worn swimwear in with a regular load of laundry, but this can actually damage the garment. Machine washing swimwear can cause the fabric to stretch, lose shape, and fade color. Hand washing swimwear with a mild detergent is the safest and most gentle way to clean your swimwear and it is really easy to do!

Supplies you will need: a sink/bucket, white vinegar or baking soda, and water.

1. Fill the sink or bucket with 1.5 liters of warm water and add ½ cup of white vinegar or baking soda.

2. Soak for 30 mins up to an hour

3. Rinse swimwear thoroughly with cold water

*Tip: To deal with difficult stains, pretreat the area by mixing baking soda and water into a thick paste. Apply directly to the stain and rinse off when completely dried. Repeat the process if necessary.

Never use bleach on white swimwear! It will turn the garment yellow. White vinegar and baking soda are much more effective to whiten and brighten white swimwear.

2. Lay Swimwear Flat to Dry

Machine drying swimwear will weaken the elasticity of the fabric. It is also not recommended to hang swimwear on a clothesline because the fabric may begin to stretch. The best way to dry your swimwear is to find a flat surface and lay the garment out in its proper form to air dry.

3. Store in a garment bag

Keep your swimwear safe and protected by storing in a reusable garment bag. Plastic bags are not recommended because they can retain moisture and create mold. Use bags that are made from a mesh material or have air holes. Shop our collection of swimwear and receive a complimentary garment bag with every purchase!

Easy enough, right? Preserve the life of your swimwear after use by hand washing, air drying and storing properly. If you have any questions for us, please leave them below and we get right back with you! :)
